Long Beach, CA Dental Implants

Dental implants have made an incredible difference in the lives of patients who are missing teeth.

If you have gaps in your smile and think that your only options are a bridge or denture, you will be happy to know that dental implants may be a good option for you.

Unlike removable dentures, implants become a permanent part of your dentistry. Once the implant is placed, Dr. Jung will design a restoration for it that blends in beautifully with your other teeth. The durability and stability of a dental implant can allow you to smile confidently and eat all your favorite foods again.

What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant consists of three parts:

  • The implant itself, which is an artificial root that’s surgically placed in your jaw. It is a small post made of a biocompatible material like titanium that integrates with surrounding bone and tissue.
  • The next piece is called the abutment. This is a small extension piece that’s attached to the implant after healing is complete. The abutment is used to secure the final restoration to the implant.
  • The final piece of the implant is the restoration. This is the portion of the implant that replaces the functioning part of your tooth – the part you can see. A restoration can be a crown, bridge, or denture.

Dr. Jung will work closely with a trusted periodontist or oral surgeon who will expertly place the implant post. Once healing is complete, he will complete the process with the abutment and an expertly crafted restoration.

What Are the Advantages of Dental Implants?

Dental implants can dramatically restore your oral health and beautify a damaged smile. However, implants also provide even more advantages over other types of tooth replacement:

  • Implants look natural and function very similarly to real teeth.
  • Dental implants are stable and help neighboring teeth stay in proper position.
  • They support the bone in your jaw to prevent it from breaking down.
  • Implants are very durable and last for years.
  • The success rate of dental implants is as high as 98%.

A dental implant also helps eliminate many oral health problems that can occur when a lost tooth isn't replaced. When a tooth is missing, you may compensate by shifting the chewing load to other teeth that weren’t meant to absorb the excess force. This can lead to chronic grinding and clenching, cracked teeth, and jaw pain.
